Talking therapy with the Midlands Dissociation & Depersonalisation Centre
We understand that it can be anxiety-provoking (or even scary!) taking the leap and booking your first therapy session.
At MDDC, we move at your pace and work towards your goals. If you want to gently explore your dissociation over a few sessions, that’s great. If you want to be challenged to make real changes in your life - we will support you all the way.
Whatever works best for you.
We don’t judge, we don’t assume, and we do our very best to use our expertise to make every client feel heard and understood.
Tailored to you
Our process
Our route into therapy sessions is to start with a no-cost fifteen-minute phonecall to help you decide whether MDDC is right for you. You get a chance to speak with your therapist and see what they are like.
You can take your time after this call to decide if you want to work with us. We promise never to pressure you.
If you want to continue, and we agree that MDDC could help, we will book a 90-minute assessment session to more fully understand your goals and current difficulties.
From this session, your therapist will have a better idea of how to support you and will outline a suggested individual therapy plan. We usually recommend beginning with six sessions, one per week, as this gives people a good chance to take a solid step towards their goals.

FAQ
I’m not in the Midlands / I can’t travel to Birmingham - can I have therapy online?
Yes!
We think face-to-face appointments are best for people experiencing dissociation, as the world is already a bit ‘unreal’ - so videocalls might not help with that feeling. However, we do understand it may not be possible for everyone to attend in-person, so we do offer videocall appointments as an alternative.
You do not have to live or work in the Midlands to work with us.
Yes!
We can work with children and young people under the age of 18, provided that:
1) The young person has chosen to attend the sessions freely, and with full understanding of what they are.
2) The person who has parental responsibility for the young person also agrees and signs a copy of the pre-therapy forms.
I’m under 18, can I have therapy?
We strongly recommend weekly sessions so that we can build up momentum and start making real progress towards your therapy goals. If this might be difficult for you, we can discuss alternatives in the pre-therapy information call and/or assessment appointment.
Can I choose how often to have therapy sessions?
We will give you full information about our processes for changing and cancelling sessions, and what we do for late arrivals or missed appointments once you sign up for a pre-therapy information call.
We work in a transparent and fair way, and will communicate all our processes to you in writing before you book any paid-for sessions. If anything is unclear, or you need to request accommodations, we will be happy to discuss.
What happens if I miss a booked session?
Unfortunately, we do not offer discounted sessions.
If you are covered by private health insurance, we would be happy to explore whether your sessions could be covered by this route.
